ESPHome Human Presence Sensor with 24GHz mmWave, Bluetooth Proxy
More Reliable Presence Detection
Improve your Home Assistant occupancy automations with a dual-technology human presence sensor combining fast PIR motion detection and sensitive 24GHz millimeter-wave radar.
This upgraded model supports both wall-mounted and ceiling-mounted installation, allowing you to choose the best position for different rooms and detection requirements.
With an ESP32-C3 processor, pre-installed ESPHome firmware, a built-in BH1750 light sensor and Bluetooth proxy enabled by default, it provides a complete local solution for presence-based lighting and smart home automation.

Wall Mounting
Wall mounting is suitable for monitoring entrances, desks, sofas, beds and other specific areas. Position the front of the sensor toward the intended detection zone with a clear view of the room.
Ceiling Mounting
Ceiling installation provides a clean and discreet appearance and can improve detection coverage in open areas. It is ideal for bedrooms, living rooms, offices, kitchens, hallways and other spaces where centralized placement is preferred.
Actual detection performance depends on mounting position, room layout, radar configuration and surrounding objects.
PIR Motion Detection
The PIR sensor detects infrared changes caused by a moving person, providing a fast response when someone enters the room.
It is suitable for:
Quickly detecting room entry
Triggering lights without noticeable delay
Detecting larger body movements
Starting occupancy automations
PIR normally requires a clear line of sight and may not reliably detect someone who remains still.
24GHz mmWave Presence Detection
The 24GHz radar detects movement through reflected radio signals. It is sensitive enough to recognize smaller movements that may no longer trigger a PIR sensor.
It can detect:
Normal body movement
Small movements
Continued room occupancy
A person sitting at a desk
A person resting or reading
Presence after the initial PIR trigger
Radar detection works in both bright and dark environments.
Dual-Sensor Occupancy Logic
ESPHome can combine data from the PIR sensor and 24GHz radar to create more dependable occupancy detection.
For example:
PIR provides a fast initial motion trigger
Radar confirms that someone remains present
Combined conditions can help reject isolated sensor events
Configurable delays prevent lights from turning off too quickly
Separate PIR, radar and combined occupancy entities can be displayed in Home Assistant
Detection logic and delays can be customized through the ESPHome configuration.
BH1750 Ambient Light Sensor
The built-in BH1750 measures room brightness and reports real-time illuminance in lux.
Use the light data to:
Turn on lights only when the room is dark
Prevent unnecessary daytime lighting
Create different day and night automations
Adjust lighting according to natural daylight
Record room illuminance in Home Assistant
Combining presence and illuminance in one device makes automated lighting more accurate and efficient.
Home Assistant Integration
The sensor connects directly to Home Assistant through the native ESPHome API.
You can:
View PIR motion status
View mmWave presence status
Create combined occupancy entities
Monitor ambient light levels
Adjust supported sensor settings
Build local automations
Install firmware updates wirelessly
Bluetooth Proxy Enabled by Default
The default ESPHome firmware includes Bluetooth proxy support.
The ESP32-C3 can forward data from supported nearby Bluetooth Low Energy devices to Home Assistant through your Wi-Fi network, helping extend Bluetooth coverage around the home.
Compatible device types may include:
Bluetooth temperature and humidity sensors
Door and window sensors
Plant sensors
BLE buttons
Bluetooth beacons
Other Home Assistant-compatible BLE devices
Bluetooth performance depends on device placement, wall materials, nearby interference and Home Assistant configuration.
Direct USB Firmware Flashing
The built-in CH340K USB-to-serial converter allows compatible firmware to be flashed directly through the USB connection.

Installation Recommendations
Avoid pointing the PIR sensor directly toward heaters, air conditioners, windows or strong heat sources.
Keep moving curtains, fans and vibrating objects outside the main radar detection area where possible.
Important Information
This product supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only.
Millimeter-wave radar may detect movement through some thin non-metallic materials.
Moving fans, curtains, pets, vibration or activity in adjacent areas may affect radar detection.
Dual-sensor logic can reduce false triggers but cannot eliminate them in every environment.
Static-presence performance depends on distance, body position, sensitivity settings and installation conditions.
Detection coverage may differ between wall-mounted and ceiling-mounted installations.
