US Smart Power Monitor (No Relay Version)

ESPHome US Plug-In Energy Monitor, ESP8285 Wi-Fi, HLW8032 Power Meter, Relay-Free Always-On Design

Monitor Power Without Switching It Off

This ESPHome plug-in power monitor is made for devices that need to stay powered continuously.

It has no built-in relay, so it is not a smart switch and cannot remotely turn an appliance on or off. Instead, it provides energy monitoring while keeping the power path continuously connected under normal operating conditions.

It is an excellent choice for monitoring the power consumption of refrigerators, NAS devices, routers, modems, network switches, home servers, security systems, and other equipment where unexpected shutdowns are not acceptable.

Core Features

  • ESP8285 built-in Wi-Fi chip

  • HLW8032 energy metering chip

  • ESPHome compatible

  • Home Assistant compatible through ESPHome

  • Relay-free, monitoring-only design

  • No remote ON/OFF control

  • Continuous-power design for always-on equipment

  • US Type A/B plug format

  • Supports local Wi-Fi monitoring and automation

Designed for Critical Always-On Devices

Traditional smart plugs use a relay to control power. An incorrect automation, accidental command, relay failure, or firmware setting may switch the connected device off.

This product has no relay, so it does not intentionally cut power to the connected device.

Ideal for:

  • Refrigerator and freezer monitoring

  • NAS and home server power tracking

  • Router and modem monitoring

  • Network switch and access point monitoring

  • CCTV and security system monitoring

  • Smart-home hub monitoring

  • Computer and office equipment energy tracking

Note: The relay-free design does not protect against grid outages, tripped breakers, damaged wiring, or other external power failures.

Real-Time Energy Monitoring

The integrated HLW8032 metering chip can provide useful electrical data in ESPHome or Home Assistant.

Available measurements may include:

  • Voltage

  • Current

  • Real-time power

  • Total energy consumption

  • Device operating status based on power draw

Monitoring values may vary depending on load conditions, calibration, ESPHome configuration, and local electrical conditions.

ESPHome and Home Assistant

This monitor is designed for users who prefer local smart-home control.

After ESPHome setup, you can add the device to Home Assistant to view energy data, create dashboards, track consumption history, and build automations based on appliance power usage.

Example uses:

  • Receive an alert when a refrigerator stops drawing power

  • Check whether a NAS or router is running

  • Track the daily energy use of a home server

  • Monitor power consumption without giving automations the ability to switch equipment off

FAQ

Does this product have an ON/OFF function?
No. It does not include a relay and cannot switch connected equipment on or off.

Why is a no-relay design useful?
It helps ensure that smart-home automations cannot intentionally shut down your connected equipment.

Can I monitor a refrigerator, NAS, or router?
Yes. It is designed for monitoring equipment that should remain powered continuously.

Can I use it with Home Assistant?
Yes. Configure it with ESPHome, then add it to Home Assistant.

What can it measure?
Depending on configuration, it can measure voltage, current, power, and accumulated energy.

Can it prevent a power outage?
