Understanding RTP and Theoretical Payback

Quick question for the math nerds in the forum: how long does a play session actually need to be for a slot's theoretical Return to Player (RTP) to take effect? I was checking out the math breakdown over at https://wolfgoldonline.uk/ and know that if a game is listed at 96%, I won't automatically get £96 back for every £100 wagered in a short 30-minute run, but how many spins does it take for the variance to smooth out?

Theoretical RTP is calculated over millions sometimes billions of simulated spins, so a single session will always be dominated by short-term variance. In a typical 200-spin session, your personal payback percentage could easily be 40% or 300% depending entirely on whether you hit a bonus feature and how the volatility rating interacts with the hit frequency.
